If you are inside the EU or any other country that requires cookie consent from the user, then here is how you can add a consent banner to your site (with the help of CookieFirst)

CookieFirst setup

  1. Create account on https://cookiefirst.com/

  2. Add your domain to the CookieFirst dashboard.

  3. Fill out the necessary information (Domain Name, Site URL, and Domain's privacy policy URL) Here is an example (replace 'mystoreurl' with the URL to your store) and use this example for Privacy policy: https://yourdomain.com/policies/privacy_policy

  4. If you are using Google Analytics, then don’t forget to check if “Google Consent Mode” in the “Google consent mode settings” section is on. It's editable in the settings of your new domain.

  5. Click “Save” on the bottom of the page.

Now you have to classify cookies that are used on your site

  1. Go to Scan results. If you don’t see anything there, then you have to wait for the scan to happen (you will receive an email when the scan completes)

  2. To classify the cookie, click on the gear icon on the right-hand side of the screen and then “Classify” (if there is no “Classify” button, then click “Override”)

  3. Classify the following cookies:

  • _vendo_session

    • Cookie category: Necessary

    • Goal: This cookie is being set by Vendo and is required for the login functionality

    • Cookie expiration time: Session

  • ahoy_visit

    • Cookie category: Performance

    • Goal: This cookie is set by Vendo, and it helps to track users between visits

    • Cookie expiration time: 2 years 5 days

  • spree_user_return_to

    • Cookie category: Functional

    • Goal: This cookie is set by Vendo, and it is required to redirect the user to the previous location after signing in

    • Cookie expiration time: 1hr

  • token:

    • Cookie expiration time: 90 days

If you don’t see any of the cookies listed, then click “Add cookie” at the top of the page.

You can also customize the style of the cookie banner by going to “Custom styling”

Connect CookieFirst to Vendo

  1. Go to “Your embed script” and copy the “API key.”

  2. In the Vendo dashboard, go to “Integrations” and click “Connect CookieFirst.”

  3. Paste your API key and click “Connect.”

That’s it, now when you visit your store, you should see the cookie banner at the bottom of the screen. You can also add a link in the footer to the cookie policy, which is located at yourstoreurl.com/policies/cookies_policy
